6 Important Syntax Highlighter WordPress Plugins

If you are writing a tutorial on CSS, PHP or anyother language, you need to highlight that syntax or code so readers can easily read it. Now the question is how you will be able to do that?, don’t worry it’s very simple as there are lots of plugins available. I tried to list down the best code highlighter wordpress plugins for you. You can download one plugin out of 6 syntax highlighter plugins given below and do tell us which plugin you think is the best.

1. SyntaxHighlighter Evolved

This is the plugin i am using and many other top blogs like Smashing Magazine are using to highlight codes in posts. It allows you to easily post syntax-highlighted code to your site without having to escape the code or anything. It uses the SyntaxHighlighter JavaScript package by Alex Gorbatchev to do the highlighting and supports all of the package’s parameters via shortcode attributes.

2. File Inliner Plugin

This wordpress plugin displays the content of a file in a post. The content of the file (called a “snippet”) is put in a block.

3. WP-SynHighlight

WP-SynHighlight is a WordPress plugin that allows easy syntax highlighting of source code you post in your blog. It works much like any other BBCode tag. It highlights everything you put between codesyntax BB code tags.

4. FV Code Highlighter

This plugin supports the highlighting of PHP, HTML, CSS and XML. The default tag-highlighter color scheme uses the same colors Adobe’s Dreamweaver is using.

5. Google Syntax Highlighter

This plugin easily integrates the Google Syntax Highlighter into WordPress.

6. CodeColorer

CodeColorer is the plugin which allows you to insert code snippets into the post with nice syntax highlighting.

This list caught my eye because I recently found a need for such a plugin and after trying out a few, I settled on SyntaxHighlighter Evolved and wrote my own post about it, so I was glad to see at number 1. For me, it presents the code in the best way possible and doesn't have some coding quirks like some of the others do (like Google SyntaxHighlighter)
