Who isn’t familiar with Star Wars? The epic story, embellished with light years ahead technology has turned millions into die-hard fans. Among the most famous elements of the Star Wars franchise are the numerous battleships. Many fans still proudly own models of these battleships. I bet none of them ever imagined these futuristic ships could be transformed into musical instruments! Tom Bingham has a wakeup call for them.
A U.K based retired printer, Bingham had loads of time to come up with acreative idea of making electrical guitars. Using famous Star Wars space ships including the Millennium Falcon, the Y-wing Fighter and the B-wing Fighter, Bingham spent many hours daily to create Star Wars ships/Electric guitars. The creation of this collection took three months of Bingham’s time, with material collected from car boot sales. These guitars are not just show pieces. They can actually be played. Imagine The Darth Vader head banging while strumming on a guitar in the shape of a battle ship of his liking!
This project by Bingham reassures that a human mind is extremely creative and unique; with ideas that truly define the depth of imagination. The time amount on time spent on the project is a testament to Bingham’s dedication and hard work. Based on the shape of these guitars, the structures had to be very solid, and that was the real challenge. The Millennium Falcon comes in almost 140 parts, and Bingham had to re-assemble them with a much stronger adhesive to create a solid guitar. Moreover, the strength of the structure was integral for the attachment of the stem. It would be extremely funny to imagine Star Wars adversaries having a rock battle rather than fighting with laser swords.
Another project similar to Bingham’s was seen in Buenos Aires, Argentina; where a luthier and a professional skateboarder joined forces to create electric guitars out of used and reclaimed skateboards! Now there is a rocking combination between, street sports, Star Wars and guitars.
